She wrote a note of encouragement on the tag to let the patient know she was not alone and was thought of.
A patient was brought to the family center by EMS as a result of a horrific situation. The patient's boyfriend and father of her expected baby attempted suicide earlier in the morning. This patient had experienced trauma in ways no one should ever have to. When the patient arrived at the family center, she was covered in blood from the events prior and naturally distraught. Kaitlyn recognized the patient from a previous encounter as a patient to the unit and immediately began taking care of her, reassuring her to the best of her ability. Upon discharge, the patient did not have any other clothes to wear besides the blood-covered clothes she was wearing when she arrived at the family center. Kaitlyn assisted her in cleaning up and changing into green pants but did not want the patient to feel uncomfortable in a scrub top, as that was all we could offer. Kaitlyn went to their locker and got the grey hoodie they wore to work that day. She wrote a note of encouragement on the tag to let the patient know she was not alone and was thought of. I believe the patient left the hospital with a glimpse of hope because Kaitlyn went out of her way to create a relationship with her.
