Kaitlyn had gone on a personal vacation four hours away a few days prior, but she ended up surprising us at the hospital on the day of discharge, traveling four hours there and back, just so she could see us off and celebrate this incredibly special and emotional day with us.
Kaitlyn was one of our daughter's NICU nurses, and from the day we met her, she immediately put us at ease. She was kind, caring, and extremely knowledgeable about our daughter C's care. She went above and beyond to explain things so we could understand, to allow us as much skin-to-skin as our daughter could safely tolerate, and to make the scariest two months of our lives just a little night lighter and more hopeful. We could always rest a little easier on days or nights when we weren't able to be in the NICU and our daughter was in Kaitlyns care. Knowing we had to leave our daughter in the NICU every day for 57 days, Kaitlyn made us small crafts to celebrate even the smallest of our daughter's developmental milestones so that we could have something to take home and cherish. I will keep each of these for the rest of my daughter's life. But probably the moment that meant the most to us was after 57 days in the NICU, our daughter was finally ready to be discharged. Kaitlyn had gone on a personal vacation four hours away a few days prior, but she ended up surprising us at the hospital on the day of discharge, traveling four hours there and back, just so she could see us off and celebrate this incredibly special and emotional day with us. It meant the world to us. We are forever grateful for the hours, dedication, sweetness, and care that Kaitlyn gave to our daughter and us during her time in the NICU. Firmly believe we couldn't have done it without her!
