September 2026 Honoree
Kaitlin Phillips, RN
Kaitlin was the nurse who tried to save my son when he was born at 31 weeks. When I came out of my C-section, she was the nurse who brought my son to me to see for the first time. Kaitlin was so gentle, so kind, and so sweet.
She treated my son B, as well as the situation, so delicately. She brought us different options for outfits to put our son in. She asked if we wanted pictures taken. She asked if she could do anything for us. She changed him and did everything in her power to make sweet memories with him while we had him. She explained all of our different options for seeing him.
She worked night shift, and she stayed over her shift for 3 and a half hours waiting on my husband and me to wake up so she could see if we wanted more pictures taken before she left. She did so much for our son. I know from seeing how much of an angel she is that she did everything she could do.
Kaitlin radiated a passion for her position. She was so loving to B, my husband, and me. I’ve never met a nurse or even a person who had so much compassion and love for others. When I think of my time in the hospital, I think of her. She was the sweet girl who left such a mark on my heart. I’ll forever be grateful for her. There’s no one in this world that I would have rather had caring for my sweet boy.

I would like to nominate one of our supervisors for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion and empathy she shows to families experiencing the loss of a baby. While bereavement care is a team effort, she consistently volunteers to support families during these incredibly difficult moments. She approaches each family with genuine kindness, patience, and grace, ensuring they feel seen, supported, and cared for during one of the most devastating experiences imaginable. She helps create a peaceful environment where parents can spend precious time with their baby, make lasting memories, and know their child is being honored with dignity and love. She has a remarkable ability to bring comfort when there are no perfect words. Whether she is helping families create precious memories with their baby, offering a listening ear, or simply sitting quietly beside them, her presence provides reassurance and compassion when it is needed most. Her kindness extends beyond the families she serves. She also supports her coworkers through these emotional experiences and leads by example, reminding us all of the importance of caring for both the patient and the family. The care she provides leaves a lasting impact that families will carry with them forever. She embodies the true spirit of nursing through her selflessness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to treating every family with dignity, respect, and heartfelt care. It is an honor to work alongside her, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of a DAISY Award.
