August 2026 Honoree
Justin Phillips, RN
I have known Justin for a few years, as we worked closely together on many occasions with patients from the ICU who had MRI's ordered when he worked on day shift. I recently had a close friend pass away in the ICU that Justin was the nurse caring for. I already knew that Justin was a great nurse, which was comforting when I realized he was taking care of my friend.
This was a very difficult time for many people, as he was a wonderful man and passed away far too young. During my friend's final hours, Justin did an incredible job explaining things to the family, as, of course, many questions arise in these situations. He was patient and respectful to all of the friends and family that came to say their goodbyes, as there was a large gathering of people, while at the same time keeping his patience as a priority.
He remained calm and compassionate, doing everything he could to make our friend comfortable while also tending to the family. What really warmed my heart was when my friend's mother was discussing things with Justin; he was so kind and compassionate and embraced her with tears in his eyes to comfort her. That is genuine human kindness!
It was easy to tell that Justin saw this situation as a moment when his role was more than just being the nurse; it was about being a support system through a difficult time. He truly is an example of our facility values that we are committed to uphold. I was so proud to see him doing what he truly loves to do.
This is the reason why healthcare workers do what they do. Justin's heart is invested in his patients and we are so lucky to have him a team member at our hospital!
Thank you, Justin, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
