Our daughter was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. In the past 16 months, she has received chemo, immunotherapy, radiation, and countless PET scans, MRIs, and brain scans. Recently, her cancer has progressed causing fluid to gather around her heart. She came to UPMC Harrisburg for the window procedure. The day after her surgery we were blessed with this amazing nurse. She had all the characteristics mentioned in the DAISY Award. If I had to pick just one characteristic, it would be advocacy. She ensured my daughter was pain-free, comfortable, and checked on her constantly. We received devastating news regarding the results of her brain scan; this nurse came to the conference room to bring us tissues and water to help comfort us. At shift change, she asked if she could give us a hug; she knew we were hurting. Her dedication and compassion were above and beyond. She came in on her day off to bring us sherbert and Italian ice. She is an amazing source of comfort for the patient and their family. Her kindness and empathy have made a profound difference in our lives. Thank you so much!
