I have witnessed Julie go above and beyond for many patients, but two situations stand out in my mind.
First, a mutual patient told me that Julie was visiting when the patient’s two large dogs got loose and ran into the woods. This patient was recovering from sepsis and was in no physical condition to try to track down her dogs. She was very worried about them getting lost. Julie completed her nursing visit and then went searching for the dogs. About twenty minutes later, she found them and brought them home. The patient was in tears, telling me how Julie saved the day.
Second, Julie and I were providing care for a patient who had chronic wounds on her legs. She was not able to walk long distances because of the wounds and spent most of her days in bed. Julie found out that this patient used to enjoy doing word search puzzles and returned on her next visit with a stack of large-print puzzle books. The patient was so excited to have an activity she could do in bed.
