Her influence reaches far beyond direct patient care into the culture she shaped, the values she installed, and the teams she empowered to deliver extraordinary care every single day.
For many years, she dedicated her life to elevating the nursing profession through her Virginia leadership, compassionate, focused, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Her influence reaches far beyond direct patient care into the culture she shaped, the values she installed, and the teams she empowered to deliver extraordinary care every single day. I never witnessed her at the bedside, but I witnessed something even more profound. Her impact was reflected through the voice of our patients during the patient experience meeting. Individuals spoke with heartfelt sincerity about the compassion, respect, and safety they felt under the care of our nurses. Their gratitude was strong, a clear reflection of the caring culture she worked hard to build.
She sat quietly at the back of the room through the meeting, almost unnoticed, as the patient described their experiences. I saw her eyes filled with tears, tears of pride, gratitude, and a deep connection to the true purpose of nursing. Her presence was quiet, yet her heart filled the room. When the meeting ended, she rose and gently introduced herself. What happened next is stand, everyone. The patient stood, walked toward her, and embraced her, not because she had cared for them personally, but because she had built the culture of care that healed them.
In that moment, the room understood the extraordinary reach of her influence. A leader like her touches patients long before they ever learn her name. Also, what truly sets her apart is her ability to see potential long before it becomes visible. She identifies strings, other haier to recognize, and she opens doors that lead people toward growth, leadership, and success. She invests time, guidance, her own feedback, and unwavering encouragement.
I am one of the many nurses whose career was transformed by her mentorship. Through every challenge, she guided, supported, and strengthened me. She doesn't simply offer opportunities. She walked beside you until you were fully ready to grow into them. Behind her composed and decisive leadership is a deeply compassionate heart. Many noticed her discipline and high expectations, but those who look closer see empathy, guiding every decision.
She advocates firstly for patients and nurses alike. Dr. Saber calls her a protector and a voice for her people. Much of her work is unseen. A great leader often is. Few witness the weight of her decisions or the sacrifices she makes so others can shine. Yet her influence is felt everywhere across every unit and within, every nurse she has left it. Her legacy isn't defined by titles or programs. It lives in the nurses who became leaders under her mentorship. The leaders who are now empowering others because she told them how, and every patient touched by the culture she built
