I was a patient at Powers Health Rehab Center after experiencing tonic-clonic seizures due to uncontrolled diabetes. Neither my daughter nor I had ever administered insulin before, and we were terrified of the new challenges ahead. My situation was very complex, leaving me completely unprepared for this journey. Then came Julie. Not only did she soothe our fears and provide outstanding education, but she also went above and beyond helping with supplies, consults, and even providing equipment until I could get my circumstances in order. The equipment (samples) was just as I needed and was plentiful.

Julie is incredibly kind, and she displays a passion and liveliness for her job. During one of our meetings, I watched her smile as she spoke of how much she loves interacting with the public and patients. She radiated warmth and compassion. These traits were evident in everything from her tone to her body language. After our initial interactions, Julie continued to check in, following up on my blood sugar levels and referring me to a pharmacist colleague who usually charges for the advice and knowledge he provided. It was clear that Julie called in a favor. I told Julie about my situation, and because she displayed such concern and care, she ensured that I had everything I needed to sustain myself while waiting for my insurance and other aspects of my life to fall back into place. Julie was an absolute lifesaver. She cared about my well-being, far beyond the management of diabetes. It is rare to encounter a nurse who not only fulfills duties but exceeds them in every possible way. Julie provided love, support, and a certain gentleness as she inquired about my home life and ability to pay for medicine and supplies until things improved shortly. She collaborated with additional colleagues to ensure a smooth transition home, extending care far beyond what was required. As I reflect on this experience, I shake my head in disbelief at how fortunate I was to have such a compassionate nurse. Julie represents everything a nurse should be. She is a true embodiment of dedication, kindness, and professionalism, and I am grateful for the impact she has had on my life as if I were watching someone tell me about the love of their life.
