Juliana volunteered to stay late over her shift to make sure all the scheduled cases would be finished without further delay.
Juliana demonstrates patient and family-centered care when she volunteers to stay late to ensure that the unit, as a team, is capable of finishing all the endoscopy cases of the day. One day, there were multiple rooms with procedures that were running late, and the unit needed nurses to stay late to finish the scheduled cases. Juliana volunteered to stay late over her shift to make sure all the scheduled cases would be finished without further delay. This helped to make sure that the procedures were not rescheduled to another day or required to be performed late into the night by the on-call team. In turn, this helps keep the integrity of our word to our patients who were told they would have their cases done at a certain time. We, as a team in endoscopy, try to be accountable to perform our cases on time, and to do emergency add-on cases as quickly as possible to meet the needs of our patients and provide quality nursing care. By being willing to show up for our patients at all times of the day and consistently provide high-quality nursing care, Juliana demonstrates her compassionate care to our patients.
