We had a patient who presented to the ED with nausea and vomiting for several days, and thought he had the flu. He was brought back to a room where Julia was the primary nurse. The patient was being assisted from the wheelchair to the bed when he arrested. Julia had already looked at the patient as they came back and alerted the charge and doctor before he went out, so the staff was already in the room. Thanks to Julia's quick thinking and assessment skills, the team was prepared for this unexpected turn of events. Over the next three hours, the patient was coded multiple times, was started on 8 drips, and had multiple rounds of code meds. Julia started multiple lines, including in the foot, was defibrillated and cardioverted several times, and intubated. Throughout it all Julia, a nurse now just at a year, was right in the middle of it all (it was her room). More experienced nurses deferred to her good judgment and awesome skill set. Julia was in her element and delivered incredible care to this man and rocked it out like the Energizer Bunny. It was awesome to see a nurse so young handling things like an old pro. The patient could not have asked for a better nurse, and the team could not have been led by a more energetic and professional teammate. For her efforts, her skill and her determination I feel Julia deserves to be recognized. She is an outstanding nurse who gives each patient her all. Thank you.
