We had an awake and alert comfort care patient admitted to Neuro. We soon found out that her husband was admitted to BJH as well, but to a different unit on a different floor. For a few days, staff members would arrange and accommodate visits so they could spend time together. The husband, a veteran, was planned to be admitted to a facility while the wife would be going to a different facility for Hospice care. What happened next was nothing short of Julia going above and beyond in a truly compassionate manner. She coordinated with our bed planners as well as the primary team for the husband. Within hours, the husband was moved to our unit and into his wife's room. Their beds were pushed close together so they would easily be able to see each other and enjoy the most of each other's company. This husband and wife could have been robbed of their last days together, but Julia's actions allowed them to continue being together within BJH, for what would likely be the last time. She is nothing short of an exemplar of what it means to keep patients at the center of care that we provide.
