I have been in healthcare for 25 years, a nurse for 23 years, and great 100 DFW nurse, and a 2-time member of the Great 100 selection committee. Juan took amazing care of me. I know PACU nurses usually do not get the recognition they deserve because their patients are mostly asleep, waking up from anesthesia. Unfortunately, I had to wait in the recovery room for over 4-5 hours waiting on a room. Juan made what could have been a horrible experience into an amazing patient-centric experience. I knew I was in great hands because he listened to me, communicated with me, kept me updated, he made me feel safe and comfortable.

I loved how he communicated with me, and also put his other patients at ease. I thought maybe he was just giving me VIP treatment because I work here but when I heard him interacting with his other patients, I knew he was a great nurse, just genuine “a nurse that is making a difference”. I was so proud to be under his care. True nurse with passion, compassion, empathy, skill knowledge, communication, and personal interaction. What a great nurse, BUMC should be proud. Juan, keep being you. You were my saving angel that day. You made a potentially horrible experience an amazing experience.
