Joyce didn’t just do her job ; she went far beyond it. She cared for my baby, my family, and me in a way that felt deeply personal and unforgettable.
There are moments in life that forever change you, and for me, bringing my baby into the world was one of the most beautiful and most difficult. What I didn’t expect was how much one extraordinary nurse could shape that experience.
When I was admitted to labor and delivery, everything quickly became overwhelming. I was battling preeclampsia; my body wasn’t cooperating the way I had hoped. It wasn’t the calm, glowing moment I had imagined; it was uncertain, emotional, and at times, I was so scared. And then there was Joyce. She was my daughter's nurse, yet somehow, she became one of the most important people in mine and my daughter's journey.
In the middle of all the chaos, she saw me not just as a patient, but as a mother who was scared, exhausted, and trying to hold it all together. She brought a sense of calm that felt almost impossible in that moment. My baby was taken to the NICU; my heart felt like it had been split in two. One of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. But Joyce didn’t forget about us.
She left a note after her shift saying she came to visit us and to stay in touch. Such a simple gesture, yet it meant everything. I put that note into my daughters' baby box. It reminded me that someone was still thinking of us, still rooting for us, still caring. And she didn’t stop there. She came to visit me in postpartum, when I was at one of my lowest points emotionally drained, overwhelmed, and in tears.
I remember feeling like I was falling apart, and she walked in with compassion, patience, and genuine care. She sat with me, comforted me, and helped me find strength when I felt like I had none left. Joyce didn’t just do her job ; she went far beyond it. She cared for my baby, my family, and me in a way that felt deeply personal and unforgettable. She showed me kindness when I needed it most, strength when I felt weak, and hope when everything felt uncertain.
Some people come into your life for a moment, and others leave a lasting imprint on your heart. Joyce is someone I will never forget. Because of her, one of the hardest yet special times in my life also holds a piece of unexpected warmth and gratitude.
