She went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in my own skin, showing me compassion and understanding that erased my fears and self-consciousness.
I am nominating Nurse Joyce for the DAISY Award because of the extraordinary care she provided during my recent birth experience. A few years ago, I had a very difficult and traumatic experience with my first birth, which left me feeling anxious and fearful about giving birth again. When I arrived at the hospital for my second delivery, I was filled with nerves and a sense of vulnerability. From the moment Joyce entered my room, she completely changed my experience and made me feel safe, cared for, and respected. The first night in the hospital was challenging; I was uncomfortable due to a magnesium drip that required frequent trips to the bathroom, and I felt like a nuisance. However, the night nurse, who cared for me that night, was incredibly kind and made sure I was as comfortable as possible.
The next morning, I met Joyce. She immediately eased my anxiety with her warm, compassionate demeanor and quick wit. She never made me feel like a burden, even though I had to be assisted frequently. Joyce took the time to understand my needs, ensuring that I had everything I required without hesitation. The most remarkable part of my experience with Joyce was how she made me feel during a time when I was most vulnerable. Childbirth is a time when a woman’s insecurities are at their peak, and I was no exception. I was embarrassed by how I looked and smelled, but Joyce's kindness and care made those feelings disappear. She went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in my own skin, showing me compassion and understanding that erased my fears and self-consciousness. When it came time to make the difficult decision between a vaginal birth or a C-section, I was terrified. Joyce held my hand and reassured me every step of the way. She told me that everything would be okay and reminded me that she would be there with me through the entire process. Her calm and steady presence was exactly what I needed to feel confident in my decision.
After my C-section, I was once again lucky to have Joyce as my nurse the following day. Seeing her walk into my room brought an immense sense of relief. She didn’t just stop there—when I was discharged and had to visit the ER, Joyce made sure to visit me, offering support and kindness when I needed it most. That act of care, going beyond her shifts to check on me, is something I will never forget. Exceptional care truly transformed what could have been a stressful and daunting experience into one that I now look back on with fondness. She made me feel like a person, not just a patient. Her attentiveness, compassion, and genuine concern for my well-being are qualities that make her more than just a nurse—she is a true healer.
I am honored to nominate Joyce for the DAISY Award, as she embodies the qualities of excellence, empathy, and extraordinary patient care that this award represents. She went above and beyond in every way, and I know that anyone who is fortunate enough to have her as their nurse will feel the same sense of gratitude and admiration that I do. Joyce is, without a doubt, one of the best nurses I have ever encountered, and she is most deserving of this recognition.
