I had a hysterectomy. That same day, Joy came to visit me in the hospital just to check on me and make sure I was okay. The next day, she was assigned as my nurse, and from that point on, she went above and beyond in every way. I could eat the hospital food, but I didn't want it; it was gross. Joy noticed I hadn't eaten and, without hesitation, used her own money to buy me IHOP so I'd have something I actually enjoyed. That small act of kindness meant so much to me. She was attentive to my pain medication schedule and made sure I was as comfortable as possible.

When I felt scared or overwhelmed, she reassured me and helped ease my anxiety with her calm, compassionate presence. When it was time for me to go home, Joy didn't just discharge me; she personally walked me to my car and made sure I was okay to get home safely. She treated me with dignity, empathy, and true care from start to finish. Joy is the kind of nurse who makes a lasting impact, and I'll never forget how she made me feel during such a vulnerable time. She is everything the DAISY Award represents.
