Jourdyn was so incredibly caring as a nurse.
My sibling (nonbinary, they/them pronouns) was in the hospital for about 10 days as a result of severe long COVID. Especially when they first arrived on the floor, we, as their families, were doing a lot of advocacy for their needs. For example, it was imperative they do not catch covid (or any other virus) while they were hospitalized, because that could make their illnesses much worse. So, we needed providers to be masked. My sibling was also extremely sound- and light-sensitive to the point that they were wearing earplugs and a sleeping eye mask almost all the time to avoid painful stimulation. This meant we needed the lights as low as possible in the room, and for providers to use quiet voices.

Jourdyn was so incredibly caring as a nurse. I don't know if she had experience with nonbinary patients before, but she consistently used my sibling's correct name and pronouns. The same cannot be said for many other providers who continually misgendered them. Jourdyn helped ensure every provider who came into the room was masked to reduce viral risk for my sibling.

She limited what she said to L to avoid unnecessary stimulation and kept her voice at the perfect volume. One provider we saw was asked by me outside their room to keep his voice low, and again inside the room by our mother when he was being way too loud. Jourdyn also spoke up to ask him to be quieter. After that incident, she made a paper sign for the door, which listed L's pronouns, the request to mask, and a request to use soft voices. She mounted a box of masks to the doorframe, so it was easy for everyone to mask.

We, as the family, were around continuously because the hospital could not provide food appropriate for my sibling's many anaphylactic food allergies, so we met all the nurses. When it was Jourdyn, we did a big sigh of relief. She seemed to really 'get' the situation, and she did whatever she could to make my sibling more comfortable. She was such a kind person and a wonderful advocate for my sibling.
