She stayed with us the entire time after life-sustaining measures were withdrawn, per my request, and provided excellent comfort care to him and support for me in the final moments.
My father had a 15-day stay at HCA Florida West in the ICU. During his stay, we encountered so many amazing nurses and doctors, but Josie really stood out in her care, compassion, and knowledge. We had the pleasure of her being his nurse for several days. Her attitude was always amazing; she took the time and extra effort to communicate effectively with my father, who was extremely hard of hearing, every time she came into his room, so he could know what was happening before it happened. Every time he needed anything, big or small, she handled it in a timely fashion and with a smile. She was his favorite nurse and an extremely helpful advocate throughout his stay. She also took time to answer all of my questions regarding his care, lab results, next steps, options, etc.
Unfortunately, my father had a lot of factors contributing to a hard recovery, and did not survive his conditions, but she offered encouragement and hope, while still providing honest descriptions of the problems and their severity. My father ended up being ventilated, sedated, and mostly unresponsive due to the severity of his illness, but she still spoke to him as if he were still present in the room, which gave me great comfort. His condition declined rapidly the morning of his passing, and Josie described everything happening, why it was happening, and made a very emotionally devastating time as smooth and painless as it could be. She stayed with us the entire time after life-sustaining measures were withdrawn, per my request, and provided excellent comfort care to him and support for me in the final moments. I truly cannot find the words to express how grateful and thankful I am to her for going above and beyond for both of us. I could not have asked for a better nurse, in all aspects.
