She was able to quickly develop a close relationship with us, even though we had known her for less than 24 hours.
Josie was the nurse for my friend's mom, who was in the St Joe ICU. She had been in the ICU for a week, and Josie was her nurse the day she passed away. While the day was terribly hard, it would have been much worse without Josie. She provided excellent clinical care and was quick to notice clinical changes and alert the physician team. She was persistent in requests to the physicians for increased sedation when it was clear my friend's mom was uncomfortable. Despite having another patient to care for that day, you would never have known it, as it felt she was always there when we needed her. She was a calming presence on an otherwise incredibly tense day. Despite clinical deteriorations, she never seemed flustered. She helped guide us through the steps of withdrawing care, including going to find an ink pad so we could take a fingerprint memory. She was able to quickly develop a close relationship with us, even though we had known her for less than 24 hours. I am so grateful Josie was put in the room that day. As a physician myself, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many nurses over the years. As such, I feel qualified to share that Josie is really one of the best I've seen. St Joe is so lucky to have her in the ICU.
