I will never forget the outstanding care I received from this nurse, and my family is so very thankful for all she did during my admission.
Josie showed exceptional care, kindness, and compassion whilst nursing me during my long stay on Abington Ward. This admission was really difficult for me,e especially being over the Christmas period and being so far away from my friends and family, yet Josie made it as nice as it could have been and always checked in on me to make sure I was ok, despite her working and being away from her own loved ones during this time.
She kept me informed about my care and spent time explaining my procedures and what the next steps were, especially when the doctor didn’t always have time to do this or would give a big diagnosis, and I hadn’t had the opportunity to ask my questions during the ward rounds. She would always ensure my mental well-being was as much of a priority as my physical health. I was always treated with dignity and respect. I really appreciated her taking the time, as her night shifts were always very busy and there were lots of elderly, confused patients who required her time and attention, but she never made me feel rushed or like a nuisance.
She always has time for everyone and appreciates each individual patient for who they are rather than just seeing us as another patient in a bed. I particularly appreciated this as I was much younger than most of the other patients, and the ward could be very daunting at times. Josie was the first nurse to effectively get on top of my pain management and ensure I was comfortable with my injuries. She was exceptional at liaising with others involved in my care to expedite referrals as needed.
I’m also extremely immunocompromised and was on active treatment whilst I was in, and Josie went above and beyond to keep me safe whilst I was an inpatient, reminding other staff to use PPE and keep me isolated in my room to prevent infection. She is always willing to help out other members of staff on the ward and is very much a team player, and doesn’t stand still on her shift, making sure all her patients are the priority. Her attention to detail whilst providing care is second to none, as she is one of the most patient people I have ever met.
I will never forget the outstanding care I received from this nurse, and my family is so very thankful for all she did during my admission. Her dedication to the nursing profession is a true example to many, and NGH should be very proud to have her on the team.
