Jordan asked me if I was going to be ok. I said, "Yes, as long as you stay with me."
My son, S, and I met Jordan after a procedure he had to drain the fluid out of his kidneys. Jordan accompanied us to the second floor. When S went, he got septic shock. He had difficulty breathing and had a racing heartbeat.
It became very serious quickly, with many professionals working with S and many caregivers outside his room. Jordan asked me if I was going to be ok. I said, "Yes, as long as you stay with me." He stood nearby, speaking slowly and quietly, explaining what was going on and answering any questions I had.
He was kind and caring, and compassionate. He took an incredibly scary event and broke it down into small bites I could swallow, one bite at a time. Keeping me from panicking and helping me to remain calm and focused on my son's well-being. He spoke about the different people who were working on S and why.
When the event started to subside, he walked with us as they transported S to the ICU. He remained calm, reassuring, and professional throughout this frightening ordeal. His commitment to remain with me was above and beyond his job description, I'm sure.
I can tell you without reservation, he was a gift from God that will always be remembered by this forever grateful mom.
