A woman and her elderly mother had been in a really bad MVC. Unfortunately, the mother was not going to make it, and withdrawal of care for the mother was already discussed with the remaining family. The patient's family kept Jordan Brown informed, and she knew the mother's death was imminent.

Jordan’s patient was being transferred/discharged, and she had heard the daughter express that she wished she could see her mother one last time because she knew her mother was not going to make it. Both patients were on our unit. Jordan organized, with the other nurse who was taking care of the mother, to bring the daughter to the mother's bedside so she could see her one last time before she left the unit.

Once Jordan got her patient in the mother's room, Jordan lowered both of the patient's bedrails so they could be closer. Jordan then took the mother's hand/who was unconscious, and put it in the daughter's hand. The daughter was able to let her mom know that she loved her and that she was going to be ok from the accident. Even though the mother could not reciprocate, Jordan had given the daughter so much closure, love, peace, and acceptance of what was to come. The time it took and the resources it took to pull this off was no little feat. I want Jordan to be recognized for the outstanding nurse that she is. She went above and beyond to make sure her patient's wish could come true, all out of understanding and love for her patient.

Thank you, Jordan, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
