My dad doesn’t see well anymore, uses a cane, and has chronic pain. I go with him to his doctor appointments, and one day I stepped away to take a call. When I came back, my dad was in a little distress, and she was leading him to a seat and offered him some water. It was a busy, bustling hallway; people walked right past him, but she took the time out of her busy day to assist him even though she had an armful of paperwork.

Every time we saw her after that day, she took a few minutes to check up on him. He lights up when he sees her. All of his appointments are at Lincoln Hospital, so we occasionally pass her in the hallways, and it makes his day! He tried to tip her, but she refused. He offered her lunch, but she refused, so when I heard about this platform, I was grateful for her and for having a place to share his story. So now, whenever he has a doc appointment, he looks forward to spotting her. That warms my heart because he’s retired and finds little joy in anything anymore; he usually just stays home.

Thank you, Jonita, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
