Jonae Harness has been a nurse in the NICU since 2006. Years ago, she cared for a patient who ended up being an organ donor after sustaining a fatal traumatic brain injury. Recently, Jonae found herself in a similar situation. Not uncommon to NICU, her patient suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. The patient's family opted to withdraw care due to poor prognosis.
In conversing with the family, one of the visitors recognized Jonae. Years ago, Jonae had taken care of the visitor's cousin who had been the organ donor after a fatal TBI. The visitor relayed that she was so impressed and inspired by Jonae's care that she went on to school to become a nurse. Now, 10 years later, Jonae is caring for this visitor's uncle, comforting this grieving family once again.
Her kindness, knowledge, and support helped the family through a very difficult time then and now. The visitor said she completed nursing school and is still practicing today.
