I am so proud of Johnjay, and this is just one example of the type of care he gives to all of his oncology patients.
Patient A was an 80-year-old male with end-stage metastatic cancer. Over the course of his admission, he developed a severe GI bleed with high-volume frank blood per rectum. The family was extremely distraught by the medical course of their loved one. This nurse was assigned to the patient over the course of three days, from which the patient transitioned from full code to comfort care, and ultimately succumbed to his disease. Johnjay was present and empathetic through the many tears, difficult conversations, symptom management, and ultimate death. He was a true blessing to the family, who sent him a card the next week, thanking him for his care.

The family wrote: "You treated him with the utmost dignity and respect at a time when our family was at a loss with grief. We will forever hold you in our hearts, and be eternally grateful for your care." I am so proud of this nurse, and this is just one example of the type of care he gives to all of his oncology patients.
