Everyone was given the chance to say goodbye because Jonatha was able to manage multiple extended family members at the bedside simultaneously without taking away from the parents' peace
During the preshift huddle, Jonatha's patient was identified as a hotspot and was at high risk for clinical deterioration. Jonatha began her shift mid-resuscitation, which is already a tough spot to start. Ultimately, the time of death was called an hour into her shift, meaning Jonatha had only had minimal interaction with the family prior to the time of death.

You never would have known there was minimal conversation prior to the time of death due to Jonatha's excellent nursing care. I was so impressed with her ability to check off all the boxes of bereavement care in such a graceful way. All of the appropriate supports for family were timely notified in order to provide family with exactly what they needed when they needed it.

When parents decided to notify local extended family, Jonatha worked effortlessly to communicate kindly with each and every visitor who arrived. Everyone was given the chance to say goodbye because Jonatha was able to manage multiple extended family members at the bedside simultaneously without taking away from the parents' peace. Even with all the visitors, Jonatha respected the parents completely by giving them the alone time they deserved without overwhelming them with excess visitors or staff. Yet, parents never felt abandoned as she was always right outside the room. Jonatha was able to find the perfect balance of space and support for this family, keeping open and honest lines of communication in an extremely respectful manner.

Jonatha gave these parents everything they could have hoped for in their final moments with their son. Unique circumstances prevented her from removing medical equipment for post mortem care, however Jonatha organized tubes, drains, lines and other medical equipment in such a way that parents were able to hold their baby one last time in the least traumatizing way possible.

Jonatha was so respectful and compassionate, she made the family's transition with saying goodbye as smooth as it could have been. She was able to form a bond and trusting relationship with the family in such a short amount of time which was crucial in balancing everyone's emotions.

However, Jonatha's care did not stop after the child's death. Once parents had said their final goodbyes, Jonatha showed continued strength and excellent care as she still had to get X-rays completed of the child. Jonatha's care of the child and positive interactions with the family cannot be emphasized and praised enough. She did a fantastic job when caring for this child and their family during what will undoubtedly be one of the worst experiences of their lives.
