From the moment we first met John, it was evident that he possessed genuine empathy and a gift to connect with his patients.
I am writing to enthusiastically commend John Pellerito, a remarkable nurse and human being. John has been an extraordinary source of support, compassion, joy, and professionalism during our time in the Translational and Clinical Research Center unit. His dedication to excellence and his unwavering commitment to my daughter’s well-being have left a lasting mark on our lives during a difficult time. From the moment we first met John, it was evident that he possessed genuine empathy and a gift to connect with his patients. He makes us feel like we are members of his family. One of the qualities that sets John apart is his exceptional ability to go above and beyond. Whether he is arranging his schedule to ensure consistency of care or advocating for my daughter's individual needs and best interests, John demonstrates a level of care that exceeds expectations. Along with the rest of the TCRC team, John has created an environment where we feel medically cared for and emotionally supported. One of the many examples of how John has made a difference is when he advocated for my daughter to keep her IV line in to avoid the traumatic ordeal of having an IV inserted for a second day. This was a game-changer for everyone, and it meant so much that John recognized how difficult it was for my daughter and me to go through this each visit. I asked my daughter what makes John so special. This is what she had to say: "John is the best nurse because he cares about me and always checks on me. He treats me with a lot of kindness by getting me warm blankets, and he crushes my medicine up in orange juice. John always asks me if I need anything, and he helps me feel better. He makes me laugh and tells me the truth about the IV, but he keeps me calm by telling me that it is going to be okay. I don't like getting an IV, but I love seeing John when I come to Boston." In addition to his professional competence, John brings warmth and humor to every interaction, brightening our difficult days. John's genuine concern and care have had a significant impact on our overall experience and my daughter’s willingness to carry on with the study. If it wasn’t for John and the entire team of incredible nurses on the TCRC floor, I do not believe my daughter would have been able to receive this life-changing treatment. John is a true asset to MGH and the nursing profession. His dedication to patients exemplifies the qualities that the DAISY Award seeks to honor.
