My grandmother was admitted to the ICU from the ED. Over her 8-day stay in the ICU, John was consistently involved in her care, was very communicative not only with her, but with me (her POA), and the rest of our family as they came to see her. His compassionate care, friendly demeanor, and excellent bedside manner made her stay much more tolerable to herself, and to our experience as a family having to be in the ICU for a week for end-of-life care. My grandmother expressed her joy in their conversations, and he took time to listen to her crazy stories. He was very attuned to how she was feeling, leading up to removing her from oxygen (at her request) and keeping her in the comfort care that she had requested, and ensuring that those who took over at change of shift were aware of what she wished. Every single staff member in the ICU over this stay was phenomenal, but John's care in ensuring all of her wishes were carried out will be with my final memories of her forever.
