Johanna has been an outstanding caretaker. I didn’t initially recognize her, but she has been extremely impactful on both my wife’s and my daughters’ lives. My daughter was brought to the Emergency Department by ambulance with anaphylaxis to a food allergy. Upon entry, Johanna gave the utmost care and concern to both keep my daughter calm and help manage my wife’s concerns. I arrived moments later, only to realize that the nurse taking care of my daughter today is the same nurse who took care of my wife many months ago in the Labor and delivery unit for this same child. It was a sweet full-circle realization, knowing that we were in the best hands the hospital had to offer to keep our daughter well. She treated my wife extremely well in the most uncomfortable and uncertain of times, and ultimately, she delivered the healthy child, whom she would soon come to treat many months later. I genuinely hope that she’s on the L&D floor again when we have our next child. If the unfortunate were to happen, I hope, too, that she’s in the ED standing by to assist, no matter who it is. Her extraordinary bedside manner and attention to detail, driven by her passion to treat not only the patient but also the family with them, are above and beyond the standard call of duty.
