She listened to stories about his life, asked to see pictures of him before he was sick, and made sure we felt seen and heard as we shared what made him special.
During one of the most difficult times for our family, Jocelyn made a meaningful and lasting impact on our experience and our hearts. Our father/grandfather, G, became critically ill very suddenly, and we spent two heartbreaking weeks by his side in the ICU before he passed. Amid the fear and uncertainty, Jocelyn was a steady, compassionate presence. She worked directly with G for four shifts, but what stood out the most was how she continued to check in with him – and on us – even when she wasn’t assigned to his care. Each time she came on shift, she made a point to visit our room, ask how he was doing, and genuinely connect with our family. Jocelyn took the time to learn who G was outside of the hospital bed. She listened to stories about his life, asked to see pictures of him before he was sick, and made sure we felt seen and heard as we shared what made him special. We told her how much pride he took in his hair, and from then on, she made sure his hair was clean and combed – something that might seem small but meant so much to us and honored his dignity. She answered every question we had with knowledge, clarity, and deep compassion. Even though she is young, she carried with such confidence and care that we felt completely at ease leaving G in her hands. Jocelyn reminded us of what it means to be treated like family in a hospital setting – not just medically, but emotionally. She was truly pulling for him and for all of us, and her presence made a difference we’ll never forget. Thank you, Jocelyn, for everything you did for our family.
