I was brought to the Woodland ER by AMR. My husband had met them in Esparto. My husband is an EMT and also a Fire Captain. I was extremely sick. Unknown at that time, I had an ear infection that became Mastoiditis, ruptured into my brain, spreading infection, and causing a blood clot near my brain. I also had meningitis. I remember none of this. I was in a coma for 6 days. I was transferred to Fresno and specialists there. But this story isn't about me, it's about my Husband. I am 41. We've been together for almost 25 years, since we were 16. We are each other's rock. My husband was beside himself. We have 2 young kids at home, and he was worried about what he might have to tell them about their mom. Joaquin was in the ER that day. He not only helped keep me alive as I went downhill fast, but he also kept my husband alive. Joaquin comforted my husband. He walked him through everything that was being done for me and treated my husband like a person. Joaquin truly saw my husband and saw him on the worst day of his life. I spent 2 weeks in different hospitals. But the person my husband has spoken the highest about has always been Joaquin Franz. I'm not sure my husband would have had the strength to get through that first day if it wasn't for this amazing nurse. I may not remember, I may not have been alert, but there is no amount of thanks I could ever give for Joaquin giving comfort when I couldn't.
