She took it upon herself to find us food vouchers and even tracked down kosher ice cream to bring us a little comfort during a very stressful day.
I would like to nominate Jo for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion and care she showed my 2-year-old daughter and our family during her recent surgery. When my daughter woke up from anesthesia, Jo cradled her gently like a baby, comforting and calming her until we could arrive in recovery. She then passed her into my arms with the same love and tenderness you would expect from family, not just a nurse. Jo noticed that I was struggling to hold my daughter comfortably and immediately placed a rolled blanket under my arm and a stool under my feet, making sure I could support my child without strain. That level of attentiveness and empathy is something I have never experienced before, even with my older child's prior surgeries. Jo also went above and beyond in caring for our whole family. She knew that we only eat kosher food, and when our daughter's surgery was delayed for hours due to an emergency case, she recognized how tired and hungry we were. She took it upon herself to find us food vouchers and even tracked down kosher ice cream to bring us a little comfort during a very stressful day. Her compassion, thoughtfulness, and advocacy for both patient and family were exemplary. Jo is the very definition of what a nurse should be- skilled, compassionate, and wholeheartedly dedicated to her patients. She made an incredibly difficult day easier, and we will never forget the love and kindness she gave our daughter and family.
