Jill Sevier showed exceptional ability to de-escalate and comfort patients in moments of crisis. We had a young patient who was admitted to an involuntary hold and was due to be transferred to another facility. The patient adamantly refused the transfer and threatened to fight anyone who attempted to touch the patient. Security was called, but they weren't necessary.

After a conversation with Jill, the patient agreed to go willingly. She approached the patient with steady confidence, a calm and soothing tone, and validated the patient's feelings. She explained to the patient that she had a choice, and the choice she made would dictate the next steps of the process. She advised the patient that if she could remain calm and work with the staff, her hospital stay would be more meaningful and possibly shortened.  

Working in mental health, we often encounter individuals who are agitated, frightened, or struggling to regulate their emotions. Jill has demonstrated remarkable patience, empathy, skill, and knowledge in these challenging situations. She has a very calming presence that patients respond to in a positive way. She embodies CHOMP's core values of people, connection, ownership, excellence, and integrity. Her dedication to patient-centered care is inspiring.
