Jae's compassion, thoughtful care, and strong advocacy for my needs were not only a source of comfort but also gave me back some of the faith I had lost in the healthcare industry when I left it years ago.
Jae went above and beyond in caring and advocating for me during my recent stay in the hospital. From the very beginning, she displayed exceptional empathy and dedication to my care, addressing concerns that had been overlooked by others. At the risk of sounding cliche, she did more for me in 12 hours than others have done during my complete hospitalization, and she deserves this recognition. The first example: I noticed my privacy was compromised when my medical chart was left open on the computer in my room, where any visitor could see my information. Jae realized this as soon as she entered my room and quickly logged the last person out and closed the program. The care for privacy did not stop there. She provided extra gowns to cover up with when taking walks down the hall and ensured modesty when helping with personal tasks, which I felt embarrassed to ask others to help with. She was vigilant in protecting my dignity at a time when I felt the most vulnerable. Then there was a moment when my concerns about my treatment were dismissed by hospital doctors, but Jae was the one who listened to me with genuine care and concern. She didn’t just nod or pretend to agree so she could leave the situation but took my worries seriously and advocated on my behalf when I felt that my voice wasn’t being heard. Her actions ensured that I received the care I needed, and she communicated with the hospital staff to guarantee that my concerns were addressed. Lastly, Jae understood the importance of rest and nutrition during my recovery. I had been woken up every hour for various tests and vital sign checks, making it difficult to get any sleep. I know these tests were important, but Jae recognized how exhausted I was and advocated for grouping tasks so I could take a small nap without constant interruptions. I was also too sick to eat anything, so she asked if I could try a nutrition shake if the doctor approved it. Her thoughtful approach to my care made a significant difference in my recovery and overall well-being. Jae's compassion, thoughtful care, and strong advocacy for my needs were not only a source of comfort but also gave me back some of the faith I had lost in the healthcare industry when I left it years ago. She displayed an unwavering commitment to her patients and went above and beyond her responsibilities to ensure my experience in the hospital was as positive as possible. I am truly grateful for her support, and I believe she embodies everything The DAISY Award stands for.
