My husband and I would like to recognize Nurse Jessica in the Emergency Department of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care, compassion, and professionalism she demonstrated during my husband's recent visit to the ER.  

My husband was brought in with chest pains and a gallbladder attack, a stressful situation after having open heart surgery only 16 months prior. From the moment we assigned a room in the ER, nurse Jessica created a calming presence that made all the difference. Her demeanor was steady and composed, which immediately helped put us at ease during a time of heightened anxiety.  
 
Jessica was not only highly knowledgeable and skilled in her care, but she also made sure to communicate everything clearly and thoughtfully. She even drew on a whiteboard what the “open air donut pass through” CT machine looked like to help my husband feel at ease, given his high level of claustrophobia. She explained each step of the process, answered our questions with patience, and ensured that my husband felt heard and reassured throughout. Her empathy was genuine, her attentiveness unwavering, and her professionalism deeply comforting. She also had a fun sense of humor that was appreciated.  

In a time of uncertainty, Jessica’s ability to combine expert clinical care with deep compassion reflects what we anticipate would be the very spirit of the DAISY Award. It is clear to us that nursing is not just her profession, but her calling.  

We are truly grateful for the care she provided and firmly believe that Jessica embodies the excellence and heart that the DAISY Award seeks to recognize. She made a lasting impact on our family, and we are so thankful for her. Now we just have to figure out her last name so we can get her the “thank you for caring for my daddy” card our 9- and 10-year-olds made.
