Several years ago, I was trying to come off heroin, struggling to do so, and I had gone to other clinics and not really had the success that I was looking for. I ended up getting switched to Baxter Essentia Health with Dr. K and her nurse, Jessica Schwartz. I immediately knew that this was my place.

Jessica made me feel so safe and welcomed. She didn’t judge me. She met me exactly where I was in my recovery and praised every little thing in every little step that I took.

I was on restricted recipient insurance with Blue Cross for at least three years into this, and it was a nightmare getting my meds. That woman moved mountains to make sure that I had my medications, even if it was just a half refill for the weekend, because we weren’t taking any risks that I would go elsewhere. She spent hours on the phone with my insurance not just once, but month after month.

It wasn’t long before I ended up having them be my primary caregivers at Essentia because of my history with addiction; I didn’t really like going into doctor’s offices or hospitals, and they made that fear go away.

Jessica has gone above and beyond not only for me but also for friends of mine whom I’ve gotten into the Suboxone program with her help. She has saved so many lives just by doing her job and going above and beyond.

Jessica works in our community closely with different programs, mentors, and recovery resources. She has held trainings for Narcan and trainings for overdose prevention.

She is everything that I wanna be when I grow up. I’ve never seen somebody who gives so much love and care to the people that she serves. I would really like to see her be recognized for the effort she puts into this community.

Thank you, Jessica, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
