She is deeply engaged in initiatives to improve Cesarean section rates, breastfeeding rates, and postpartum hemorrhage outcomes, always using evidence-based practices to guide improvement.
I would like to nominate this exceptional nurse leader for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Jessica truly exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents—extraordinary, compassionate care—yet she extends that compassion not only to her patients, but to our entire organization.
Throughout her career, she has served as both a direct and indirect leader within Women’s Services. As she proudly shares with anyone who will listen, Baptist is her family and her home. She has grown up professionally within this organization, demonstrating unwavering loyalty and commitment. Her dedication to lifelong learning is evident in her achievement of two master’s degrees and numerous professional certifications, including certification in electronic fetal monitoring, certified nurse manager leadership, and obstetric and neonatal quality and safety.
What makes her leadership especially meaningful is that she does not stop with her own professional development. She actively encourages and supports her team in advancing their education, pursuing specialty certifications, and growing in their careers, all while aligning individual advancement with Baptist campus goals. She invests in her people because she believes empowered, educated nurses deliver the safest and highest-quality care.
Jessica places a strong emphasis on quality and outcomes. She is deeply engaged in initiatives to improve Cesarean section rates, breastfeeding rates, and postpartum hemorrhage outcomes, always using evidence-based practices to guide improvement. Her focus on quality is intentional and consistent, ensuring that patient care remains safe, compassionate, and continuously improving.
She is equally committed to creating a positive and supportive work environment. She values input from her team, includes them in decision-making, and empowers nurses to practice at the top of their licenses while holding them accountable with fairness and respect. Her leadership fosters trust, professional pride, and shared accountability.
Jessica also makes her appreciation for her team visible and meaningful. She has created novel and heartfelt recognition initiatives such as the World Breastfeeding Week Breakfast, the Quarterly Compassion Award, and the newly established Years of Service Wall of Fame—an initiative that has generated excitement and pride across the team. And of course, she is there to support our DAISY Honorees! These efforts reflect her genuine respect for her staff and her belief that recognizing contributions strengthens morale and retention.
No task is beneath her. She will step into a patient assignment on any unit without hesitation, just as readily as she will plan and support a Magnet site visit, ensuring her leaders are prepared and her Baptist family continues to shine. Her versatility, humility, and servant leadership truly set her apart.
She consistently leads with compassion, integrity, and excellence. Her influence reaches far beyond her role, impacting patients, staff, and the organization as a whole. For these reasons, she is highly deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
