Her support gave me confidence and eased so much of the fear I was feeling during that vulnerable time.
I would like to nominate Jessica Mazur for the DAISY Nurse Award. Jessica is truly the most caring, devoted, and compassionate nurse I have ever met, and she is an incredible patient advocate. She was there for me during one of the hardest parts of my postpartum journey, and I will never forget her kindness and the comfort she brought me. Jessica cared about me not just as a patient, but as a person. She saw me as a human being who was struggling, and she made it her mission to help me through it. She went out of her way, time and time again, to ensure I felt safe, cared for, and understood. Throughout the night, Jessica was always checking on me. She never made me feel like I was a burden or just another patient. She would come in often, not just to take care of my physical needs, but to talk with me, listen, and make sure I was emotionally okay. She answered every question I had with patience and honesty, explaining everything that was happening so that I felt informed and empowered in my care. Jessica is a true patient advocate. I always felt like she was in my corner, looking out for my best interests. Her support gave me confidence and eased so much of the fear I was feeling during that vulnerable time.
One of the moments that meant the most to me was when Jessica made me a mocktail. She could tell I needed a moment of joy and escape from the heaviness I was experiencing. So, she brought me a fun drink and we pretended we were in Jamaica, like she had been on her honeymoon. There weren't any little umbrellas for the drink, so instead, she gave me a small glass duck. That glass duck now sits on a shelf in my daughter's room as a constant reminder of Jessica's kindness, creativity, and the way she made me feel seen and cared for in one of my hardest moments. Jessica made me feel heard, valued, and never alone. She was there for me the entire night, ensuring I was as comfortable as possible, emotionally supported, and treated with respect and dignity. Her compassion, empathy, and tireless dedication went far beyond what anyone could expect from a nurse.
Jessica Mazur is the kind of nurse every patient hopes to have. She turned one of my darkest nights into a memory filled with kindness, laughter, and connection. I am forever grateful for her, and she is more than deserving of the DAISY Award.
