I am honored to nominate Ms. Jessica Leaf, MSN, RNC-EFM, NYSAFE, for the prestigious Nurse Leader Daisy Award. Over the past several years, I have had the privilege of working alongside Ms. Leaf at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. During this time, she has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership, remarkable clinical expertise, and unwavering dedication to both her team and her patients.
Ms. Leaf’s approach to leadership is deeply rooted in compassion, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. She actively fosters a supportive work environment in which every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. Through her open-door policy and attentive listening, Ms. Leaf has built a culture of trust and respect within our unit. This supportive leadership was particularly evident when she went to Unity to assist her fellow OB team members during an emotionally challenging time.
In addition to her exceptional interpersonal skills, Ms. Leaf’s clinical judgment and critical thinking abilities have proven invaluable in navigating complex and challenging situations. She leads by example, consistently upholding the highest standards of patient care and safety. Ms. Leaf is dedicated to mentoring new nurses, facilitating continuing education, and implementing evidence-based practices, all of which have significantly enhanced both staff performance and patient outcomes.
Ms. Leaf has also demonstrated outstanding leadership during our most recent DNV survey. Despite the surveyors’ pressing questions, she maintained her composure, responding with grace and professionalism. Through her actions, she effectively showcased the excellent work the OB team achieves daily.
Above all, Ms. Leaf embodies the core values of integrity, empathy, and service. She inspires those around her to strive for excellence and advocates passionately for patients, families, and staff.
