The patient shared that Jessica was the most important part of their recovery in that moment — not just medically, but psychologically.
Jessica is the recipient of the DAISY Award because she provided extraordinary emotional and physical support during a moment of extreme panic, helping a patient regain control, safety, and trust in their own body. Her presence became an anchor during a frightening medical crisis.

A patient described waking up in a severe panic state — dizzy, unable to speak clearly, unable to think, and feeling trapped in their own mind and body. Jessica immediately recognized the depth of the distress and stayed physically present, holding the patient’s hand to provide comfort and grounding. For hours, she calmly talked the patient through an intense and debilitating panic attack, offering reassurance without rushing or dismissing the fear.

Jessica reminded the patient of simple, stabilizing truths: that they were breathing, that their airway was open, and that their body was functioning. With her steady voice and compassionate presence, she helped the patient slow their breathing, reconnect with reality, and regain a sense of control. The patient shared that Jessica was the most important part of their recovery in that moment — not just medically, but psychologically. She became their support system, helping them breathe, think, and feel safe again.

Jessica embodies the highest ideals of nursing by recognizing that healing includes both mind and body. She treated the patient as a whole person, offering patience, empathy, and unwavering attention during a deeply vulnerable experience. Her calm demeanor turned panic into stability and fear into trust. Jessica’s actions reflect the true spirit of the DAISY Award: compassionate care that changes lives in moments when it matters most.
