It wasn't just Jessica's skills that impressed me, it was her patience and kindness to our patients as well as fellow co-workers.
When I first began orientation as a new nurse, I was transitioning from a burn tech to an RN. I was filled with Joy, a mix of excitement and nervousness. The weight of responsibility felt overwhelming with the amount of class, information that was given, and limited time spent on the unit to have hands-on patient care. Nurse Jessica made it clear that she wasn't just here to show me the ropes, but here to help me transition and grow. As days went on, Jessica shared not only practical advice on procedures and protocols but also wisdom on the emotional side of nursing. It wasn't just Jessica's skills that impressed me, it was her patience and kindness to our patients as well as fellow co-workers. She took time every shift to sit down with me and review what went well and what could be improved. She celebrated my successes, no matter how small, and offered constructive feedback when I needed it. By the end of my orientation, I realized I had gained more than just clinical skills. I had learned the value of empathy, communication, and resilience traits that Jessica embodied every day. I'll always be grateful and thankful for your mentorship, which went far beyond simply teaching me how to do my job. It showed me how to do it with my heart and never give up.
