I gave birth to my son with the tragic knowledge that he would only live for a few hours. When I went into labor, the room filled with doctors and nurses. I felt someone grab my hand. It was Jessica, one of my nurses from earlier in my hospital stay. She told me she specifically asked to be with me during labor so I would have a familiar face. Jessica held my hand the entire time and talked me through the scariest and saddest time of my life. After my son was born, she took photos of us and made sure to get them to me after we left the hospital. Jessica made my husband and I feel that our story and our son’s life mattered. I often think about her, and I am incredibly grateful for her kindness.
