I was not worried because Jessica was there with him. I can't thank her enough to keep my son safe.
My son is on the 6th-floor NICU. Jessica took care of him a few times. Both times, she used her critical thinking and saved my son! The first time I called her, I voiced my concern. She talked to the NP and readjusted his ET tube placement. My son has a unique anatomy. His ET tube must be in a specific position to keep him safe. He had multiple bagging events while we were waiting for the surgery date. In the first week of Feb, my son had six bagging events in 24 hrs.
Jessica was the nurse who took over his care that night. When I talked to her that night to check on him, she said they readjusted his endotracheal tube again where he liked it, and it worked for 18 days! That's the longest he has been stable without any bagging event. The next day, she came in and noticed his abdomen looked distended and he had bloody stool. He got pneumatosis when I got a call from the doctor at 1:30 am to let me know that he would be NPO for 10 days. I was not worried because Jessica was there with him. I can't thank her enough to keep my son safe. I have met many wonderful people here, but Jessica holds a special place in my heart. I didn't even meet her. I am planning to come to see her when she works again. NICU life is hard, but having people like Jessica makes a considerable difference in NICU parent's life.
