I have worked alongside Jesse for the past year and have always noticed her ability to make patients feel well taken care of and loved. She has a fun-loving spirit and wit that puts people at ease in difficult and stressful times. This past week, I observed Jesse make an unforgettable impact on her patient.

As a maternity nurse, helping patients with loss is one of the most heartbreaking jobs. I witnessed Jesse’s heartbreak alongside her patient, who lost their child during delivery. Jesse treated the patient and the patient’s visitors like family. She comforted the patient and stood right by her side for her entire stay, and insisted on being her postpartum nurse even though Jesse usually works on the labor side.

Jesse had a relationship with the patient that was built on more than being a good nurse, but being a person of great empathy and kindness deep within. Jesse listened to the patient and advocated for her to be able to express concerns to other hospital staff. After each of Jessie's overnight shifts, she would stay for hours to make sure the patient was taken care of. Any patient in heartbreak would be lucky to have Jessie as their nurse.
