May 2026 Honoree
Jerrica Johnson, RN
I would like to commend Nurse Jerrica Johnson for the extraordinary care, courage, and advocacy she showed while caring for my mother during her hospital stay.
While caring for my mother, Jerrica noticed a rapid and concerning decline in her overall health and well-being. My mother had recently been taken off a medication that had supported her quality of life for several years. Within two days, her condition deteriorated significantly. She began hallucinating, felt extremely unsafe in the hospital, and was clearly declining both physically and mentally.
Rather than simply accepting the situation, Jerrica stepped up and advocated fiercely for my mother. When providers were hesitant to restart the medication, Jerrica respectfully but firmly challenged the decision. She shared the facts, described the changes she was seeing in my mother’s condition, and advocated on behalf of her patient.
As a family, we were deeply concerned, but we would not have known how to navigate the system or advocate in the way Jerrica did. She used her knowledge, experience, and voice to ensure that my mother was heard and cared for.
Jerrica embodies what healthcare should be. She is not simply doing a job; she is protecting patients when they are at their most vulnerable. Her willingness to speak up, question decisions, and put her patients’ well-being first is truly deserving of recognition.
Because of Jerrica’s courage and dedication, my mother received the attention and advocacy she desperately needed during a frightening time. She is making a real difference in patients’ lives by doing what is right, even when it is not the easiest path.
Jerrica represents the very best of nursing, and our family will always be grateful for her care, compassion, and unwavering support.
