Asking me to choose one nurse is like asking me to choose one of my children. I had an endarterectomy and Melissa, from ICU introduced herself to me. "You will be all right, and I will take care of you, R". Her words were reassuring and comforting. I felt I was not just a patient but Melissa's patient.
Feeling poorly, post-surgical, my BP was trending upward, Melissa informed the surgeon and a new bag was hung and new IV inserted. I remembered her words. Melissa has been blessed with the gift of caring! My angel! On Tuesday morning, when she started a new shift, she stopped by my room to say "Hello!"
On the same day of surgery, as they changed shifts at 3 pm, Jenny and her tech continued excellent care. Not being able to urinate, Jenny contacted the surgeon, who instructed her to empty the bladder. Explaining the procedure with professional confidence, "we proceeded". 550 milliliters emptied. By 10:30 PM or so I had mild success of my own. I took a moment to pray and thanked the Lord. Throughout the night and early morning, a lot of measuring of urine took place. Jenny and her tech responded promptly to each of my calls. Upon completion of their shift, they came to see me and wished me well. They became my new best friends throughout the night and early morning.
