She has been there for us countless times for information, advice, and comfort and has made this whole ordeal a little more manageable.
We would like to start by saying that this was very difficult because we have had so many amazing nurses in the ICU. Our nomination for The DAISY award, however, would have to be Jenny in the ICU department. We believe she is a major reason why our daughter is still alive today. We completely understand that it is a HUGE team effort to save a life, but Jenny was one of the nurses that stood out to us. Her willingness to not give up on our daughter that night, and her continued hard work the next couple of nights did not go unnoticed to us. As our world was shattering around us Jenny was one of the few people that was able to provide comfort for us while at the same time being very informative and gentle with everything that was going on. To our knowledge, she is usually a charge nurse during the daytime, so we realized that was already a little miracle she was there that night to help save our daughter. She was our daughter's nurse another time about a week later and we instantly saw how attached she was to her. It warmed our hearts and made us feel comfortable she was in her hands. She was extremely attentive to our daughter and even reached out to our daughter's general surgery doctor personally when she believed our daughter's colostomy bag was not looking as it should. We would later see the doctor who agreed and took her for another possible life-saving procedure. When she went back to charging it would not stop her from periodically checking up on our daughter much to our relief. Even if it was something simple like suctioning her mouth while she was intubated or cleaning her up a little bit it got us very emotional to see her caring for our daughter so well. Even when she had a 3-week absence from work when she returned, she did not hesitate in checking in on our daughter much to our delight. Jenny has always been keeping up with our daughter's progress and is always delighted at whatever milestones she reaches. When we saw Jenny tear up after our daughter responded to some verbal commands after weeks of being intubated, we knew she genuinely cared for her, and we knew she was with us on this journey to save our daughter's life. From getting our daughter a caramel macchiato to meeting her outside the first time she is wheeled out in the courtyard, we feel Jenny is accompanying us every step of the way. When we became nervous once our daughter was more stable and started developing some low-grade fevers Jenny was there to advocate for her and helped communicate with the intensivists what was going on and helped rule out several causes. She has been there for us countless times for information, advice, and comfort and has made this whole ordeal a little more manageable. These last nine and a half weeks have been extremely traumatizing so we are sure we are missing other instances where she has stood by our daughter's and our side. We would just like to say thank you to Jenny and hope that she always keeps our daughter in her heart.
