I am still receiving treatment, and I owe it all to the influence Jenny made on me.
I went to the ED to detox from alcohol. I had a severely high BAC and had been drinking for nearly 15 years. I was so terrified of seeking treatment. When the shift change happened, Jenny came in and was so sweet and kind to me from the moment she walked in. She handled me and my situation with such gentleness and care. She knew I was terrified and comforted me in a way no one else could in those moments. She shared life experiences with me that changed my entire perspective.
I was offered a spot at BHS, but I was on the fence about getting help. Jenny continued to tell me how strong I was, even though I was scared. She said it would be the best thing and choice I would ever make, and I truly believed her when she said it. After talking with her for a while and some time to think, I made the ultimate choice to go to BHS and accept treatment for my alcoholism. Jenny was right, it was the best decision I ever made. She knew I had 4 kids at home and told me they needed their mom, a healthy, alive mom. She couldn't have been more correct!
After 9 days in detox and weeks in outpatient treatment, I am 26 days sober today and still going. I am still receiving treatment, and I owe it all to the influence Jenny made on me. I would most likely not be alive if it weren’t for her, or I would have lost everything. She is an extraordinary nurse and human. She showed true compassion to me when I was at my absolute worst.
