Jen is an example of what every nurse should be and what I, as a nurse myself, strive to be.

My family has unfortunately not had good luck with nurses, and so I stay with my family anytime they are there, in case I need to advocate for them when they are unable. My dad was hospitalized, and I was with him the whole time. Jen was his nurse for two nights on the night shift. She was exceptional the first night. We were excited when she told us she was coming back the following night.

During the day shift on the second day, my dad went for a diagnostic lap, and everything went well with that, until it didn’t. He got back to his SIPS room around 3:30 pm, and by 5 pm, we were calling a rapid response on him for becoming unconscious with hypotension.

After the first rapid response, we had thought we had him settled and better, but right before shift change, the staff called another rapid response due to severe hypotension and going in and out of consciousness. Jen did not hesitate to jump right in, without finishing report, to help my dad. My dad decompensated really fast, and she did not skip a beat to step in. Before she even finished getting report, he was complaining about being really hot, due to bleeding internally. She ran and found a fan for him and made it to where he was getting relief from the fan.

She actually took the time to listen to us and took our concerns to the doctor without hesitation to figure out what was going on. Jenn did not leave my dad’s side, other than to go get supplies to care for him, until the surgeon came in and decided he was going to emergency surgery.

Jen was an exceptional nurse, and we are all very thankful to her for saving my dad’s life. Her willingness to jump in and do whatever she could to help will never go unnoticed by my family or me. Once we knew he was going to the ICU, she sat with us while we were packing our stuff to make sure we were ok and listened to us, again. She even came to check on him in the ICU after his surgery.

I truly believe that if it wasn’t for Jen and her urgency to care for my dad, he would not be here and home with us today. Thank you so much, Jen, for everything. We will never forget you.
