To have the same nurse by my side during two major milestones eight years apart is something incredibly rare and incredibly special. It feels like life came full circle, and she was the steady presence in both chapters.
I am honored to recognize Jennifer Vega because the impact she has had on my life is something I will carry with me forever.
My story with Jen began in 2017, during one of the most challenging seasons of my life. I spent three and a half months on bedrest in the hospital, three and a half months filled with fear, uncertainty, and long days that sometimes felt impossible. But every time Jen walked into my room, the atmosphere changed. She brought comfort when I was overwhelmed, strength when I felt fragile, and hope when I was terrified about what the next day might bring.
She didn’t just care for me medically; she cared for my heart. She learned what calmed me, what worried me, and what helped me feel human again when everything felt out of my control. A nurse may see many patients in a career, but some nurses make you feel like you’re the only one that matters. That’s who she was for me in 2017.
This past week, when I returned to the hospital to deliver again, I never imagined I would be blessed with the same nurse who had walked with me through that earlier journey. Yet there she was, Jen with the same warm smile, the same calm presence, and the same ability to make me feel safe instantly. Seeing her again brought back a rush of emotion, but also the deepest sense of peace. I knew I was in the best hands possible.
She remembered me, my story, and even small details I thought had long faded. In a moment that could have been filled with anxiety, she grounded me with her steady reassurance. Her gentle confidence and compassionate care helped guide me through yet another life-changing experience. She celebrated with me, comforted me, and once again made me feel seen and supported, not just as a patient but as a person.
To have the same nurse by my side during two major milestones eight years apart is something incredibly rare and incredibly special. It feels like life came full circle, and she was the steady presence in both chapters.
Jennifer Vega exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents. She is empathetic, attentive, and profoundly human in the way she delivers care. She is the kind of nurse who becomes part of your story and whose kindness stays with you long after you leave the hospital.
