We need more "Jen" nurses in the world!
I live in Dallas, but had to travel to Kansas City for an urgent family matter. I got special clearance from my Dallas-Fort Worth surgeon due to having my own procedure. I was still in KC and experiencing some post op concerns, and opted to come to Shawnee Mission Advent ER to follow up on my post op wound concerns. I was fortunate to be under the care of Jennifer in the ER.
I was impressed by her genuine interest in my care and health history. My post op issue that brought me in was due to having microvascular decompression surgery on my trigeminal nerve in my head. I was diagnosed with TN 10 years ago, while only in my 40s. My recent surgery has been a game-changer in eliminating my daily battle of pain. I'm sharing because TN is a rare and misunderstood neurological condition, and I've had more negative experiences with medical personnel because they don't understand the symptoms or the pain...I assume this is because it's fairly uncommon.
So, with that...I have to acknowledge her as my RN at Shawnee Mission Advent ER! As an out-of-state patient in her ER, Jennifer made me feel like a guest in her home with the utmost hospitality in making sure I was comfortable on every level. I was really impressed when she actually knew about trigeminal neuralgia and the pain that people live with to manage life. I appreciated that she asked questions about my recent experience and surgery benefits and risks in a way to seek more information, because there's always more to learn from medicine and patients in healthcare. She really stands out as a healthcare provider that naturally sees and hears her patients...me. I couldn't leave the ER without letting someone know how lucky the hospital is to have her! Thanks for blessing me today with her experience and compassion! We need more "Jen" nurses in the world!
